What is North Pole?
There are several north poles on our planet:
Geographic North Pole: It coincides with the axis of rotation and is located over the Arctic Ocean.
Geomagnetic North Pole: It is the point where the surface of the earth intersects with the magnetic axis.
North Pole of Inaccessibility: This is the furthest point in the Arctic Ocean from all the lands that surround it.
Celestial North Pole: It is an imaginary point, the intersection of the axis of rotation of the earth with the celestial sphere.
Magnetic North Pole: It is the south pole of the Earth’s magnetic field (it attracts the north pole of the needles of the compasses) and is located near the island of Bathurst, in Canada, in the territory of Nunavut.
At the north pole, the sun is above the horizon throughout the summer and below the horizon during the winter. It rises before the March equinox, the sun reaches its highest point during the summer solstice, and then sets fully after the September equinox.
The time to use at the north pole will depend on who is in it since many different time zones converge and a specific time cannot be applied due to the movement of the sun. The North Pole is at sea level in the middle of the ocean. In winter its temperature is -43ºC and in summer it is 0º to 5ºC.

What is South Pole?
It is the southernmost point on the planet, opposite the North Pole, it is at latitude 90º S, where the meridians converge. As the north pole there are several south poles:
- Ceremonial South Pole
- Magnetic and Geomagnetic South Pole
- South Pole of Inaccessibility
- Geographical south pole.
The thickness of the South Pole ice sheet is 2700 meters and the glacier moves about 10 meters each year. The south pole does not receive sunlight in winter, in summer the sun is very low on the horizon, the south pole is illuminated by the reflectivity of snow. The South Pole has the lowest temperatures on the planet as it is located at 3,200 meters above sea level. In summer the temperatures reach -25ºC and in winter the temperature drops to -65ºC, it is known that the highest temperature recorded has been -14 ºC and the lowest of -83ºC.

- The north pole thaws every year during the spring.
