Biology is divided into various branches. Some important branches of biology are:

External Morphology

It is the study of the form and structure of living organisms with the naked eye or with the microscope.

Anatomy

It is the study of the internal organs of a dissected organism.

Histology

It is the microscopic study of tissues.

Cytology

It is the study of the structure and function of cells.

Physiology

It is the study of the normal functioning of various parts of plants or animals.

Paleontology

It is the study of fossils. It has two more branches.

Paleobotany: The study of plant fossils.

Palaeozoology: The study of animal fossils.

Genetics

It is the study of hereditary characteristics transmitted from parents to the offspring.

Taxonomy

It is the naming and classification of organisms.

Embryology

It is the study of the development of an organism from the zygote.  A zygote is a fertilized egg.

Evolution

It is the study of the ancestral history of the living organism.

Zoogeography

It is the distribution of animals in nature.

Molecular Biology

It is the study of the structure of organisms, the cells, and their organelles at the molecular level.

Environmental Biology

It is the study of Organisms in relation to their environment. This also includes interaction between the organisms and their inorganic and organic environment.

Microbiology

This is the study of microorganisms which include bacteria, viruses, protozoa, microscopic algae, and fungi.

Freshwater Biology

It is the study of organisms living in freshwater bodies and the physical and chemical parameters of these water bodies.

Marine Biology

It is the study of marine life and the physical and chemical characteristics of the sea.

Parasitology

It is the study of parasites. The structure, mode of transmission, life histories, and host-parasite, relationships are studied in parasitology.

Human biology

It deals with the study of morphology, anatomy, histology, physiology, evolution, genetics, cell biology, and ecology of human beings.

Social Biology

It deals with the use of social behavior and the communal life of human beings.

Biotechnology

It deals with the use of living organisms, systems, or processes in manufacturing products for human use at the commercial level.

Pathology

It is the study of the cause, origin, and nature of diseases.

Ethology

It is the branch of Biology dedicated to the study of animal behavior.

Ecology

Herpetology

The branch of biology is dedicated to the study of reptiles and amphibians.

Mycology

The branch of Biology is dedicated to the study of fungi.
