Difference between Geometry and Trigonometry

Difference between Geomatery and TrigonomateryDifference between Geomatery and TrigonomateryGeometry and trigonometry are two different disciplines. Geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the properties of figures in space or in the plane and trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that is responsible for the study of trigonometric ratios such as sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant. It intervenes in the other branches of mathematics and is applied in various areas where precise measurements are needed.

Geometry

Geometry is a branch of mathematics in charge of the study of the properties of figures in space or on the plane and includes points, lines, planes, among others. Its basis is descriptive geometry and technical drawing. It gives foundation to instruments such as the compass and systems as complex as GPS. Its origins go back to solving problems related to measurements and it has practical application in mechanics, architecture, geography, applied physics, astronomy, nautical, and other sciences.

It is one of the oldest sciences and was made up of practical knowledge in relation to lengths, volumes, and areas. The Babylonians are one of the first cultures to incorporate geometry. There are several types of geometries:

  • The absolute geometry.
  • Euclidean geometry.
  • Euclidean geometry of the plane.
  • Euclidean geometry of space.
  • Elliptical geometry.
  • Spherical geometry.
  • Finite geometry.
  • Hyperbolic geometry.
  • Riemannian geometry.

Trigonometry

It is a branch of mathematics. The etymological meaning is the measurement of the triangles. It is responsible for the study of trigonometric ratios such as sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, cosecant, and secant. It intervenes directly or indirectly in the other branches of mathematics and is applied to areas that require precision measurements. It applies to various branches of geometry. It has various applications in science and technology.

Difference between Geometry and Trigonometry in points

  • Trigonometry is a branch that studies the relationship between the sides and angles of a triangle.
  • Trigonometry studies the properties and applications of the trigonometric functions of angles.
  • Geometry is the branch of mathematics that is dedicated to the study of the properties and measurements of figures in a space or a plane.
  • Geometry studies the properties and surfaces of figures.
